I wonder why it takes us a steep enough price to learn the true value of life. If it is not the loss of someone we know, an icon we revere or a person that we give big place in our life, we usually tend to take everything for grant. And at time unless we don’t have that bad experience on personal level we rarely stop and ask our life. And the same is true when it comes to recognizing the achievements and lives of people in our life. We all have a poor practice of celebrating the people who do matter in our life and those people whose walks in life has set footprints that could be taken as lessons and inspirations. When the news broke out about the sudden sickness and later on of the death of the iconic artist Eyob Mekonnen, the same was true. Almost all the FM stations and a significantly large number of people on the social Medias made him an issue of discussion. His amazing works of art revived and his humility and down to earth personality were on the spot light. He championed his true worth and the respect for his magnificent works with a depth that are beyond words could describe through his death. Even those who rarely visit the social Medias made a time to write ‘RIP’ on their walls and entertainment shows on TV and Radio talked about the depth of his music and the value content in it which they used to pass with just the title of it on normal occasions. People might die because of a number of different cases. Some might die because of sickness or an accident. But each one of us could contribute to their death while they are alive when we fail to recognize their worth, when we deny giving the credit they ought to have and when we take them as an ordinary being. The case of Eyob Mekonnen is nothing different from this. He might have died because of a stroke. And may be his bad habit filled life style that he later on pulled himself out could have contributed to his weakness to survive the stroke. But for me his true death was in our failure to recognize his towering talent while he was alive and when we all realize how great of an artist he was, the amazing power of his music and his far sighted life philosophies after he passed away. It’s truly a pity that we all speak in the same language when it comes in talking the goodness/ or badness of a person once they are gone and fail to do so when that person is amongst us. We all should learn to take the moment, the present to work on nurturing the people around us. Celebrate talents and achievements; uphold personalities that could be venerated as role models and cherish the people whose life could be taken as a source of inspiration for others. Even when we criticize people it should never have to be to condemn people but to contribute to their growth positively. And in all counts we should never judge people for their acts as we never are free from wrongdoings ourselves. Eyob mekonnen died leaving an album that could be taken as a tune that no one could tire of listening. Tunes with contents that are so deep and full of amazing values. Values that are far reaching and life values and philosophies that each one of us should share and cherish. In each of his works his true personality is painted and coined through the powerful lyrics. I could not stop wondering what his next album could have been like. He left with his heavy footprints in the music industry and probably in all of our lives through his great work of art. He only won the respect and love he deserved after he passed away. I hope we all have learnt our lesson, that no matter what we should take this right moment that we are on to celebrate the people we hold dear, to nurture the lives of those we value much. ታዛዥዎ መቅደላ መኩሪያ
