I won’t abandon Aregbesola’s road projects —Omisore - TopicsExpress

I won’t abandon Aregbesola’s road projects —Omisore THE governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the August 9, 2014 election, slated to hold in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has described as untrue, speculations that his administration would abandon the ongoing road projects, being implemented by the incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola. He declared that if elected as governor of the state, his government and party would not have any plan to play politics with the development of the state by abandoning road projects and other programmes which may benefit the citizenry and impact meaningfully on the social and economic growth of the state. Omisore, who made this known at the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun on Thursday, contended that Akoda-Gbongan, Old-Garage-Ikirun-Kwara boundary road projects are federal government roads, stressing that the completion of the construction works might be a mirage if the PDP fails to win the August 9 gubernatorial election. While maintaining that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of Aregbesola had dissipated energy and resources on federal roads to the detriment of state roads, the PDP’s standard bearer lamented that “many road projects, dotting states have not reached 20 per cent completion stage, thereby causing hardship for residents in some urban centres, where such projects are located”. According to Omisore, “this is the fourth year of this administration and 80 per cent of the road projects are not completed, thus holding the state to ransom. That is the reality of time. By the time this government changes on August 9, Aregbesola would go back to Lagos, leaving uncompleted projects and debts owed to contractors. For somebody to award contracts worth about N19 billion and fail to complete 10 to 15 per cent after 4 years, where do we go from there? Construction of Osogbo-Ikirun-Ila Odo-Kwara boundary road projects have not reached Steel Rolling Mill”. He, however, assured that all the road projects would be speedily completed when his government takes over the reins of power after the August 9 poll, just as he affirmed that “whatever borders on the development of our people will not be tampered with and this is because the policies and programmes of our people revolve round the masses”. Omisore, who decried the alleged stoppage of the council of traditional rulers’ meeting and the demolition of building where monarchs hitherto held their consultations, promised that another accommodation would be provided by his administration for the immediate convocation of the traditional rulers’ monthly meeting. He, therefore, called on the people in Osogbo to vote massively for the PDP in the coming poll, pointing out that “these APC people are bound to go back to Lagos whether they like it or not. Responding, Oba Olanipekun urged Omisore to discountenance rumours that he was supporting a particular candidate, submitting that “Senator Iyiola Omisore is not only a respected chief in Osogbo, he has contributed significantly to the growth of Osogboland, particularly when he was the deputy governor.” He prayed that God should make Omisore’s dream to govern Osun a reality on August 9, 2014.
