I would like to take the time to share my favorite moment with my Nana Jean. Long ago, I had a novice obsession with fishing. Being an irresponsible child, I would leave my fishing pole unattended and in the garage (where our dogs stayed at the time). Nana was watching us while Mom and Dad went on a well deserved vacation (leaving us behind of course). Now that the logistics of the situation is behind us, lets get to the meat and potatoes of the story. Here is 4th grade me getting home from a long day of school, getting off the bus seeing Nana mad as hell in the front yard waiting on us to get home. Turns out, that well placed fishing pole decided to go fishing without my presence. One of our two shi-tsu dogs, Charley, decided to get curious around the tackle attached to the pole. To Nanas horror, the dog was caught in the leg by the bait hook and was going ballistic (naturally because holy crap fishing hook in the leg). Fight or flight took on and Charley went straight for the doggie door to the backyard. Only one problem, the hook was set and the pole couldnt quite make it through the door. Turns out, the only way to get Charley back inside was naturally reel in the line and bring Charley back through the door for proper medical attention. I did not witness this first hand, but I can easily picture my Nana reeling in Charley both of them mad as hell (Charles dog lived a very long and productive life after this incident). I got quite a scolding that afternoon, but I love that particular memory. We will miss you Nana. We all know you now rest after a very long and very fruitful life. Bumper finally gets to see you again after decades of waiting. We all aspire to love like you, care like you, live like you, and above all, fish like you. I love you Nana Jean! Safe passage to the other side, theres a seat reserved for you and quite a large party at the table!
