I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes. On Saturday Sept. 13th, Jason and I ventured to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to celebrate my birthday. On Sept. 14th, Hurricane Odile swept into Cabo and completely devastated the area. It was 9 hours of 125 mile per hour winds destroying the territory. Surviving the storm was the easy part, little did we know what was ahead of us. Our resort was flooded with 30 to 36” of water. Our room was wet including our bedding and our luggage. We had very little food and water, no electricity, no running water, no staff, no security and for days we had no hope of getting out any time soon. We were told that the airport was destroyed and roads were washed out. We had no communication with the outside world. I spent my birthday wondering if I would live or die. Every day we were faced with new dangers. There were starving children, people losing their minds and people starting to pass out. When I was finally able to reach my mom, I told I loved her in case I never had the opportunity to tell her that again. I also asked my mom to reach out to my friends and family so that people would pray and send us the positive energy and the strength that we needed. About 3 hours after that, things took a turn for the better. They informed us that they were going to evacuate us at 4 o’clock in the morning. This was a very long night, we were in the pure darkness. The surroundings were progressively getting worse with violence, looting, fires. At four a.m., they came to get us and we were forced to leave our luggage. We sat in pitch black lobby for 2 hours with gun shots going off. They told us they were going to separate men and women. They then walked us to the road and left us to take a cab to the airport. They did not end up separating us. We arrived at the airport to 10,000 people standing in line to try to get on a plane. We waited for 6 hours in scorching heat with very little water. We were in serious danger of heat stroke and dehydration. For 4 of the 6 hours, the line was not moving. All of the sudden American airliners were allowed to come in and get us. There was hope! The line began moving 150-200 people at a time. We were put on a random flight to San Jose, CA. We took a train to San Francisco and flew home on Friday. We met some amazing heroes and wonderful people along the way. This message only relays the tip of the iceberg. We have to been to hell and back and there are many more stories. A lot of tears were shed. WE ARE VERY HUMBLED! WE ARE SURVIVORS! There are so many unfortunate things that happen to people in this world. Everyday take a moment to appreciate the people and blessings you have in your life. I am making this commitment to myself. Be gentle with people, you never know what they have endured. Also, if you are in a position to help the people of Mexico, please do so. So many people lost their homes. I am so grateful that once we were evacuated we had a home to come to. Thanks again for all of your well wishes! IT HELPED!
