I would like to wish everyone in Seattle and surrounding area #HappyIndigenousDay! Congratulations to the activists who fought hard to #abolishColumbusDay! I hope this initiates a critical historical consciousness throughout Washington state that starts a Nationwide movement!! I lived in Seattle for five years while attending Shoreline a Community College (SCC) and UW. When I moved to Vancouver in 2004 to attend UBC, I was immediately struck by the acknowledgment of the Musqueam people whose unceded territory the University occupies by staff and faculty across disciples. I never witnesses this at UW or SCC. Seeing people respectfully position themselves in relation to territory and their First Nations hosts on campus and throughout the city confirmed many of the reasons I left Seattle. Im happy to see that Seattle seems to be making great strives toward a better relationship with Native people! Ntoyaxsm again to all of the Indigenous leaders and supporters for leading the way! As we say in Canada on National Aboriginal Day, Happy Us Day!!
