I wrote about my journey but it all disappeared, so finally I am attempting it again. I spent just 2 weeks with Pauline but I gave my all during that time. Even if the goats took off for 26 hours one day so I went into a small canyon with Ruby tracking them. We were pretty certain the baby goat was dead, but then we saw his baby hoof prints in the sand. We lost their trail & turned back but it is so completely gorgeous in that remote high desert! Will Peabody rape these pristine lands? Will we EVER stop the killers of ALL LIFE? Oh it was so good when the goats came back just before sunset! The baby made it! It was exhilarating....until I got lost a few days later about 100 feet from the hogan where I was staying. How did I get so utterly disoriented so close to where I was supposed to be? Well I tried so hard to keep the goats with the sheep that I was darting back & forth between the two groups trying to prevent separation that I lost my priceless shepherding hat somewhere in a series of gullies as I successfully turned the sheep & the goats around towards the grassy grazing in the big canyon & deterred them from dispersing in corduroy gully. When I noticed my missing hat, I was not leaving the herd to go back into those deep, mazey ditches. Bye bye beloved hat. Truth is, I completely wore my 64 year old granny self out. So I spent the next 2 hours wondering in the nooks & crannies of that stunning desert looking for what was right in front of me. By the time I finally saw the sheep corral, 10 sheep were gone. Great job.
