I wrote my first poem on the Chinese aggression. It was a rather aggressive 2 stanza tribute addressed to our soldiers which the then editor of Sunday Times refused to believe was written by a child. Mummy sent off the poem to Panditji. Next thing I knew, it appeared in the childrens section of Sunday Times. In the next school hols, mummy sat me down before Patanjali Sethi, the Editor and said, give her a subject and watch her write a poem on it at one go. The startled yet amused pair of us did as we were told and my second poem got published. Awful stuff from what I recall but it was the access a citizen had to the Prime Minister of the country that is important. A heartfelt birth anniversary remembrance to Chacha Nehru and to the old Nehruvian era when some things went right and some went wrong but the vision was 20:20 idealism.
