I wrote my own message: Presently we are attempting to solve a problem created by treating Australian Consumers as third class citizens. We are catering to the large Corporations desperate demands to extract exorbitant premiums for digital content, which is accessible for far lesser amounts in other countries. Providing access to better pricing will go a long way to reducing the propensity of people to engage in the downloading of content from sources which provide it in manners which side-step the standard distribution model. The answer proposed by our Government seems to be a method which will only go to increase the costs to the end consumer of all services which the Internet provides. Connection costs will increase as data storage and tracking software requirements will add significant costs to the business of ISPs. Further, connection speeds will dramatically decrease as all data is run through filters and gateways, causing our nation to have Internet speeds which will be the equivalent of a third world nation, bringing with it a decrease in our ability to compete in the International Marketplace in many different industries. We already have issues with the fact that were around the other side of the world and have to deal with time zone differences, to exacerbate this with slowed communication and lessened ability to transfer data around the world, we will fall further behind. Playing catch up when our natural resources run out is going to be essentially impossible as the vast majority of finances will have gone to private individuals with no ability to improve our infrastructure.
