IAS Prelims 2014: Strategy for General Studies Paper II (CSAT) IAS Preliminary 2014 Exam is scheduled to be held on 24th August, 2014 and barely 7 months are left for the preparation. The candidates must gear up now, given the amount of competition involved in the exam. The General Studies Paper II of CSAT was introduced in 2011 and the area is relatively new in the exam. Let’s find out what can be the appropriate strategy for succeeding in IAS Prelims Paper II:- • Select one good book that covers all the sections given in the syllabus. The candidates should go for the Standard books that cover the whole Syllabus. • Right from the beginning, devote at least 2-4 hours daily to this paper, depending on how much you are comfortable with English, Mathematics and General Mental Ability. Non medical and English background students may devote lesser time while Hindi and non-Mathematics background students have to devote a little more time to this section • Start practicing questions from the selected book topic wise and try to complete it by the end of May. • As you start getting a grip on the basic topics, start solving practice papers for CSAT. Try to solve as many sample papers as possible. These can be accessed through a book or through online portals like Jagranjosh. • The most important aspect of CSAT paper is time management. If you haven’t practiced enough papers, you won’t be able to complete the exam on time. Try to solve as many practice papers as possible, in the time period of 2 hours, by setting a stopwatch. This will help you increase your speed and enable you to complete the paper on time. • In the last 6 weeks, practice at least one sample paper everyday with a stopwatch on. If you devote sufficient amount of time to this paper and follow a proper strategy, the exam is going to be a cakewalk for you.
