They are always penultimate. They have always been. They will always be. Uhuru Kenyatta is not a god and William Samoei Ruto is not an angel. They are two human beings elected under controversial circumstances to head two human institutions. They are individuals facing crimes against humanity charges in a human court of law. The world will not stop on September 10 and November 12. And whether they are ultimately convicted or acquitted at the end of their trials, life shall go on... babies will continue crying for milk, children will continue to play by the roadside on their way to school, fathers will continue to walk from Kibera to Industrial Area in search of elusive opportunities, mothers shall continue to go to marigiti in the wee hours of the morning in an effort to put food on the table. And Kenya shall continue its troubled search for true nationhood. And so whatever the MPs on both sides of the political divide say in Parliament this afternoon, take a deep breath and remind yourself of these things...
