IDCO Asks POSCO Plan Bhubaneswar : 2/July/2013 With land acquisition for the 8 Million Tonne Per Annum (MTPA)steel complex proposed by South Korean steel maker POSCO nearing completion in Jagatsinghpur, the IDCO authorities have asked POSCO India to finalize its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plans at the earliest. According to sources, the top bosses of the South Korean steel behemoth will meet IDCO authorities soon to chalk out an action plan for taking the Greenfield project forward. Notably, till date, 1703 acre of land has already been handed over to POSCO-India and acquisition of 850 acre in Gobindpur village is nearing completion. After completion of land acquistion, POSCO India authorities will have 2553 acres of land at their disposal. CMD IDCO, Vishal Dev, who has been making determined efforts to hand over the land as early as possible, wanted the company to scale up its peripheral development works in areas where the Greenfield project is coming up. According to sources, POSCO-India CMD, Yoon Yong Won along with the top brass of the company will meet top officials of IDCO during the week for finalization of the company’s CSR activities. The CSR Initiatives include periphery development work, setting up of rehabilitation colonies, building roads and bridges, erecting of protection wall, taking up massive plantation and other developmental activities. During the POSCO-India CMD’s meeting with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on June 7, the former had made commitment on behalf of the South Korean steel major to sort out the issues pending so as to pave the way for smooth scaling up of the project work, said official sources. According to sources, the State Government expects the POSCO India authorities to spend at least Rs.200 crore in these villages towards peripheral development to win the hearts of affected people. With Jagatsinghpur district administration taking up land acquisition process sincerely, the South Korean Steel major will have to reciprocate accordingly, said a senior government official. The shape of the CSR plan will take final shape after the high level meeting, which is slated to take place during this week, said the official.
