IDQ20038 Bureau of Meteorology Queensland Regional Office TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND for DAMAGING WIND, HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in the Scenic Rim and parts of the Ipswich, Gympie, Logan, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Moreton Bay Council Areas. Issued at 3:12 pm Tuesday, 9 December 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:15 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near the NSW border. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast to southeast. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Coolangatta by 3:45 pm and waters off Tweed Heads by 4:15 pm. Other severe thunderstorms were located near Rathdowney and Maroon Dam. They are forecast to affect Laravale, Kooralbyn and the area west of Conondale by 3:45 pm and Beaudesert, Conondale and Kenilworth by 4:15 pm. Damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 4:15 pm. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast and parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Maranoa and Warrego districts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219.
