IMC Pick of the Day- Thats the Way Ive Always Heard It Should Be, Carly Simon- 1971 Thats the Way Ive Always Heard It Should Be was released from Carlys self-titled debut album. This song was written about the parents bad marriage- the friends unhappy lives- the boyfriends enthusiasm for marriage but controlling nature- the womans initial resistance and ultimate capitulation. A singer/songwriter named Jacob Brackman wrote the lyrics. He and Carly Simon met in 1967, and they have written several songs together which appeared on her first three albums.
