IMO environmental justice is *the* social/global issue of the 21st century, encompassing all other important issues of economic inequity, racial/ethnic injustice, crop worker safety, nationalism (lets make sure our OWN country is safe), global economics ... this is the overarching issue that will decide whether our grandchildren can breathe and drink water and live peacefully in a world of flourishing flora and fauna and clean air/land/oceans ... vs whether they will live through massive die-offs (and mutation?), the desperation of masses of humans to flee regions that no longer support life, and Mad Max style post-apocalyptic societal collapse. When a powerful storm destroyed her riverside home in 2009, Jahanara Khatun lost more than the modest roof over her head. In the aftermath, her husband died and she became so destitute that she sold her son and daughter into bonded servitude. And she may lose yet more.
