IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL CLIENTS &PET PARENTS: There is an upper respiratory infection (dogs) going around Madison. It is believed to be bacterial. The infection can progress to a serious pneumonia (thankfully, we have not seen cases this severe at Ruffin’ It but area veterinarians have). The symptoms are similar to that of bordetella (kennel cough) but this infection is probably not bordetella; bordetella vaccines are not preventing the infection. Some veterinarians are prescribing antibiotics, some are not unless the dog has a fever or is immune deficient. Most do prescribe cough suppressant. The infection runs its course in about 12-14 days. Some dogs can be carriers and never show symptoms. We have had several cases at Ruffin’ It and encourage clients to alert us if their dog is diagnosed with this infection after staying at Ruffin’ It. As always, your dog’s health is of our utmost concern and we remain vigilant in our efforts to maintain a safe and healthy environment. Please call your veterinarian with questions regarding this upper respiratory infection or if you think your dog may be showing symptoms.
