IMPORTANT JOB ANNOUNCEMENT! Applications are invited for a post undergraduate research assistant to join the natural products/synthetic medicinal chemistry team of Dr. Allan Patrick G. Macabeo. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative therapeutics from a medicinal plant for TB, Staphylococcus aureus and possibly Alzheimer’s disease. The team is currently working on several novel phytochemical classes of compounds chemically-derived from plants which may have potential activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, S. aureus and cholinesterases. The research will be funded by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) and is available immediately for 6 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for a further 6 months. The successful candidate should have a good background in synthetic organic chemistry and/or has vast experience in pharmacognosy, medicinal chemistry, drug discovery / development, microbiology and assay/screening. The post will be based in the Organic Synthesis Research Laboratory (Room 410) of the Research Center for the Natural and Applied Sciences in UST. Candidates must have a Chemistry, Biochemistry or Pharmacy Bachelor’s Degree (or M. Sc. units ) with excellent writing and laboratory skills.
