IMPORTANT LAYLA UPDATE! Please read! Hey everyone, An hour after posted Laylas rescue video yesterday, (if you missed it, be sure to watch it here: youtu.be/R4Jjum2lZEQ ) I received a call from her Internal Medicine Specialist. She had come in for a checkup the day before and although her intestines looked really good on the ultrasound, he found something else quite worrisome... One of Laylas kidney is completely blocked, and based on the ultrasound, it isnt a kidney stone. What does this mean for Layla? Well, I spent the better part of the day on the phone with her doctors to better understand her condition and it looks like Layla is going to need surgery within the next week. There are a few different surgical options and we are meeting with specialists on Monday and Tuesday to see which would be the best fit for our precious girl. The first (and most traditional) option is to remove the damaged kidney. Before we can consider this, Layla would need to undergo testing to confirm her other kidney is fully functioning and can take on the job of being the only kidney. The second option is to surgically place a stent where the blockage is. This would be the more ideal option so that Layla doesnt lose a kidney, but its a very delicate procedure and only a few docs in Los Angeles perform it. And we need to find out if Layla is even a candidate. So here we are... Our Layla is sick. Although she looks and seems fine, she has a very serious medical issue that we must take care of. I wish we could do the surgery today, but her doctors feel its best to wait the few days until we have better information on exactly what is going on. I’m scared for our little girl. She’s been through so much already but my hope is that her fighting spirit will help get her through this next major hurdle. And knowing that Layla incredible has foster parents, Rescue From The Hart, and a whole village standing beside her, gives me hope.
