IMPORTANT NOTICE Due to unforeseen circumstances and those beyond our control, the Yokine Swapmarket has been closed. The City of Stirling decided to pull our permit to use the reserve at Yokine for no particular reason. Of course the Market Manager, Dianne, along with her support crew are devastated regarding the decision. Naturally, the decision made by the City of Stirling to not allow the Yokine Swapmarket to proceed will affect a lot of people. For instance, we had about 200 sellers coming down to the Swapmarket this Saturday and to those we profusely apologise, but, this decision was not our call. There are other people affected by this closure. All the people living in the Yokine and Dianella areas where Dianne did the letterbox drop, and who embraced the idea of having a swapmarket in their area, will be sadly disappointed. In fact, the idea of our family-friendly, community swapmarket was accepted by a majority of the residents spoken to by Dianne and her support crew. So, to those residents, the people who were coming down to sell or those who intended on coming and enjoying a browse around the swapmarket, we apologise again. Hopefully we can find another reserve to have the swapmarket. Furthermore, we have set in motion a petition for any person to sign who wishes to support us in an effort to retain the Yokine Swapmarket. Dianne and her support team will be at the Yokine Reserve this Saturday with the petition and supporting letters explaining everything. Judging by the locals’ response when the letterbox drops were done, the petition should have a massive number of signatures. The residents of Yokine and surrounding areas deserve to have a community swapmarket on a Saturday so please, if you wish, voice your opinion or sign the petition.
