IN FAMILY, BITE YOUR TONGUE BEFORE REGRETTING WHAT YOU SAY. - TopicsExpress

IN FAMILY, BITE YOUR TONGUE BEFORE REGRETTING WHAT YOU SAY. One of the biggest reasons for conflict in family life comes by the way we talk to one another. Our words have power, and sometimes we say things in the heat of the moment. Then later on, our conscience bothers us, and we feel sorry for what we said, but the damage is done. I want to offer you some advice that needs to be taken to heart. Consider the insights below that are formulated from The Message (a Bible paraphrase from James 3: 2-9). The ideas give perspective about the dangerous and hurtful power of the tongue. Read the following 4 statements and apply them in family relationships: 1. We get it wrong nearly every time we open our mouths. It only takes a spark to set off a forest fire in family conflict. 2. A careless or wrongly placed word out of our mouths can hurt our loved ones. 3. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell. 4. You can tame a tiger, but you can’t tame a tongue—it’s never been done. The tongue runs wild, a wanton killer. With our tongues we bless God our Father; with the same tongues we curse the very men and women he made in his image. Curses and blessings out of the same mouth!” So here is the best advice: Bite your tongue before regretting what you say to your family members.
