IN PARLIAMENT THIS AFTERNOON ORDER PAPER TUESDAY 25TH NOVEMBER, 2014 QUESTIONS 1. MR. D. KEORAPETSE, MP. (SELEBI PHIKWE WEST): To ask the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources:- (i) how many companies were awarded jobs in the last refurbishment or “shutdown” of the smelter plant at BCL and how much were they paid; (ii) how many of these companies are partly or wholly citizen owned; and (iii) to state the kind of jobs they did. 2. MR. P. BUTALE, MP. (GABORONE CENTRAL): To ask the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture if he is aware that graduates who have enrolled under the Internship Programme remain unemployed after the lapse of the 2 year contract; if so:- (i) can the Ministry authenticate or dismiss this statistically; and (ii) how he intends to review and improve the Internship Programme in a manner that will minimize exploitation of the intern as is the status-quo, especially in terms of finances. 3. MR. W. B. MMOLOTSI, MP. (FRANCISTOWN SOUTH): To ask the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to state:- (i) the number of people nominated as Councillors in different Councils of Botswana in 2014; (ii) the number of those who were candidates for the ruling party in the just ended General Elections among the nominated Councillors; (iii) the number of those who were candidates in the recent primary elections of the Botswana Democratic Party; (iv) the Constituencies where the just nominated Councillors at the Sowa Township Authority originate; and (v) the number of those recently nominated at the Francistown City Council, their names and the Constituencies they come from. 4. MR. P. BUTALE, MP. (GABORONE CENTRAL): To ask the Minister of Education and Skills Development how the Human Resource Development Council will address the issue of skills mismatch that has been identified as a major problem in Botswana’s educational system. 5. MR. D. KEORAPETSE, MP. (SELEBI PHIKWE WEST): To ask the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration:- (i) why Government has not implemented the recommendations of the 2007 Bertrand de Speville Consultancy Report on the Review of Botswana’s National Anti-corruption Strategy and its Implementation; and (ii) whether he has any intentions of implementing some of the recommendations; if so, which recommendations and when. 6. MR. P. BUTALE, MP. (GABORONE CENTRAL): To ask the Minister of Education and Skills Development whether it is true that part of introducing the Human Resource Development Council was to mitigate strikes, protests and demonstration in tertiary institutions; if so, how will this be done without necessarily taking away the right to protest which is a component of freedom of expression enshrined in the Constitution. 7. MR. D. KEORAPETSE, MP. (SELEBI PHIKWE WEST): To ask the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs to state the number of Chinese nationals residing in Botswana and state how many of these are:- (i) business people; (ii) working and in what areas; and (iii) unskilled, semi-skilled or skilled.
