IN RESPONSE TO ILLINOIS CENTRAL BUS COMPANY, MAYOR FREEMAN-WILSON - TopicsExpress

IN RESPONSE TO ILLINOIS CENTRAL BUS COMPANY, MAYOR FREEMAN-WILSON AND DR. PRUITT PUT THIS OUT: We wanted to take this opportunity to provide the public with information about the status of an outstanding bill with Illinois Central Bus Company. We have been transparent about financial challenges of the district. The decrease in school population coupled with the multiple threats to property tax revenue have hampered our revenue stream. At the same time, we have communicated with all creditors including Illinois Central Bus Company about our desire to work through legitimate outstanding liabilities. It is also noteworthy that over the last 8 years, we have paid Illinois Central $57,315,187.35. $20,108,213.25 of that has been paid in the past 3 school years. We sent them $316,182.14 in the last 30 days. We consider them a valuable partner. At the same time, I would implore the bus company as a multimillion dollar corporation to refrain from unduly alarming parents and children and to continue to work with us towards a resolution to this problem. We believe that business disputes are resolved in meeting rooms and not the court of public opinion. Finally, we want to assure parents that we are committed now more than ever to providing our students with an exemplary education and transportation to get to it.
