IN THE SPIRIT OF SHARING AT THANKSGIVING___ The Easiest and Best Ever Turkey Recipe! The recipe down below was shared with me a few years ago, and it will be in the Hall family from now on! It absolutely has to be the easiest turkey recipe weve ever seen, as well as it is super good__very moist and tasty___coloring: golden brown. Making it even more special: It is a no fail recipe! I have shared it with friends who cook all the time (unlike me), and they say it is what they will use from now on. The recipe belongs to country singer, Trisha Yearwood, who is quite a good cook. Her recipes are all over the internet, as well as in cookbooks. Let me say, I wish my Mother had had this recipe. It would have been a BIG help to her. It was quite a chore for her to bake a turkey, and Mother was also a very good cook! She would start the turkey baking process the night before Thanksgiving, with intermittent basting taking place throughout the night, and still on occasion her turkey was drier than she would have liked. With the recipe below, you will only experience a very moist and tasty bird! HAPPY THANKSGIVING! NO-BASTE, NO-BOTHER ROASTED TURKEY foodnetwork/recipes/trisha-yearwood/no-baste-no-bother-roasted-turkey-recipe/index.html Recipe adapted from Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen by Trisha Yearwood (c) Clarkson Potter 2008 Show: Trishas Southern KitchenEpisode: A Yearwood Thanksgiving Rated 5 stars out of 5 Total Time: 7 hr 10 min Prep 10 min Cook 7 hr 0 min Yield: 10 to 12 servings Level: Super Easy Ingredients • 1/2 stick salted butter, softened • One 12-pound turkey, completely thawed and all giblets removed • 2 tablespoons salt • 2 teaspoons pepper • 2 stalks celery, cut in lengths to fit turkey cavity • 1 medium sweet onion, such as Vidalia, cut in half • 1 large carrot, cut in lengths to fit the turkey cavity • 2 cups boiling water Directions Adjust the oven racks so the covered roasting pan fit easily inside. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F. Rub the butter on the outside and in the cavity of the turkey. Sprinkle the salt and pepper on the inside and the outside of the turkey. Put the celery, onion and carrot in the cavity. Place the turkey, breast-side up, in a large roasting pan. Pour the boiling water into the pan. Cover with a tight-fitting lid and put the pan in the oven. (Note from Jennifer: Suggested to us to use a navy and white speckled Dutch oven roasting pan with lid, which we use.) Start a timer when the oven temperature returns to 500 degrees F. Bake for exactly 1 hour and turn off the oven. Do not open the oven door! Leave the turkey in the oven until the oven completely cools; this may take 4 to 6 hours. (Note from Jennifer: We place duct tape on the oven door to remind us, as well as to keep us from accidentally opening the oven door during baking time. YOU MUST NOT OPEN THE OVEN DOOR UNTIL THE OVEN IS COMPLETELY COOLED!) Reserve the pan juices and refrigerate the turkey if it will not be served soon after roasting. Notes from different Bloggers: amazon/trisha-yearwoods-turkey-recipe/forum/ One blogger added apples to the listed veggies, while noting that she made adjustments for a 23lb. turkey. She also used chicken broth instead of water, stating that the turkey was “MOIST so MOIST”! Another blogger writes from another year: “In fact I tested it today after seeing her (Trisha’s) show this past Saturday. I used an 11 pound turkey and followed the instructions to the letter. The bones just pull away clean from the turkey absolutely no waste at all with this method, it is moist, tender and tastes amazing. Cleanup was quicker than usual and my husband was skeptical which was why I tested it today before Thanksgiving dinner. Its amazing and is my method from now on.”
