INCOME TAX BILL MUST BE DEFEATED ON ARRIVAL TO THE TCI HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY. by Albray Butterfield, Jr. The Turks and Caicos Islands Income Tax Bill 2014, that the government titled Payroll Tax Bill 2014, (is) in order to mislead and fool the People of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Because the government knows that the majority of the TCI citizenry does not read important government documents, or will not pick-up the newspaper and read it in its entirety, the government is hoping that this Bill too will slip through the cracks and be voted into law, like many of the other oppressive Bills that have been passed into law by our own TCI House of Assembly (HOA) members. This Bill that is improperly titled, is a full USA IRS style Income Tax Bill that the government is intending and hoping to pass on Monday in the TCI HOA, and will come into force within a few months from now. THIS INCOME TAX BILL MUST BE DEFEATED ON ARRIVAL TO THE TCI HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY. As an alternative, the government needs to present a General Sales Tax Bill to the TCI House of Assembly, and it will pass with flying colours. A General Sales Tax Bill is a much broader base tax that will capture everyone including the transient visitors to the TCI. That way, it becomes more sustainable and less onerous on just a select few of the working class and the few businesses that are still left here in the TCI. Please lobby as many of the TCI Members of Parliament (MP) regarding this Income Tax Bill 2014, especially your constituency MP, in order that they may VOTE TO KILL THIS BILL UPON ARRIVAL TO THE FLOOR OF THE TCI HOA. This is one time where the doctrine of Collective Responsibility among Government Ministers should be ignored, and Government Ministers for once should stand up and vote their conscience in line with their constituents that voted them into the TCI HOA to represent our interest.
