INFO TO GIVE THE CITIZENS INFORMATION WHICH IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE IN MOST WARDS Seth Thompson of the FEVER reports: (Paraphrased) At a meeting addressed by Umdoni Municipality Speaker Sykes Naidoo advised members of the Ward 10 Committee on issues of community concern.. He emphasized that ward committees have considerable latitude (freedom/autonomy) to adopt structures best suited to their (ward committees) needs, but he advised members to focus on achieving results rather following templates (red tape). QUOTE: “Your objectives should be to identify problems within your ward, proffer solutions, if you have them and pressure your councillor and officials to pursue the issues through the council process to their resolution. To that end I suggest you welcome those (the public) who want to make an active contribution.” UNQUOTE As a matter of interest the portfolios in the Ward 97 Committee as identified by the eThekwini Council and instructed by The Speaker Cllr Logie Naidoo some time ago are: 1. Ayanda Buthelezi - ayandabut@gmail After almost a year in office the ward committees are costing the rate payers in stipends alone R10 000 a month per ward, yet this important announcement is still in abeyance delaying service delivery improvement. Most portfolio holders are already working but are supposed to meet with the public and specifically interest groups to form sub-committees to make the wards more effectively run. These are regulations that are currently still not adhered to. How much must the tax payer pay just to kick start committees. This is not an official announcement of any sector of any municipality or ward committee but my personal observation of facts at hand, but would like the public to be aware of who those they have elected and more important their relevant portfolios. Knowing this will add value to the R10 000 the rate payer is forking out monthly via the rates base. Frank Horn AMANZIMTOTI
