INFORMATION MINISTER MEETS JOINT ACTION COMMITTEE OF PIA Islamabad: September 18, 2013 Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed had a meeting with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of PIA here Wednesday. The members of the Committee briefed the Minister about the crises being faced by PIA for the last few years. They said PIA is a strategic asset of the government and any decision about it should be taken with utmost care. The Minister said that Government is fully cognizant of the concerns of the PIA employees and it will not take any action which may be detrimental to their interests. However, the Government has to take measures to bring the organization out of the crisis. Whenever any such organization is facing difficulties, the government would be very much concerned about it, the Minister said. He said we are aware of the baseless rumours being spread about the administrative issues of PIA. Workers should not heed them. PIA is not being privatized rather it would be run through public-private partnership. No employ would be sacked abruptly, the Minister added. He assured that employees’ interests would be safeguarded. He further said that before any step is taken, employees representatives would be invited to Islamabad for consultation. The Minister went on to say that changes would be made through public-private partnership for improving the performance of the National Flag Carrier. As the major stakeholder, the administration would not only be shareholder in the profit that PIA earns but also share the losses. In the past, the administration was taking all the benefits, whereas the institution itself was plunging in grave losses. It will not be tolerated any more, the Minister said.
