INJURY UPDATE: Baines one of seven players to be assessed ahead of the visit of West Ham: http Roberto Martinez remains hopeful Leighton Bainescould recover from his hamstring injury in time for Saturdays visit of West Ham United - though the Blues boss conceded he is likely to be without midfielder Gareth Barry. James McCarthy, Kevin Mirallas (both hamstring)Seamus Coleman (Achilles), Darron Gibson andSteven Pienaar (both knee) will also all be assessed, while Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo are definitely out. Were checking Leighton on a daily basis, said Martinez on Thursday. Hes someone who heals really quickly and at the moment its difficult to know if hes going to be involved on Saturday or not - its going to be touch and go. I dont expect that injury to go too far. Normally its between 10 and 14 days but with Leighton you cant really rule him out. Ive seen him recover from a similar grade one hamstring problem before in eight days, so were going to give him as much time as we can to see if he can make it on Saturday. If not, I hope he can be fit for the Wolfsburg game. James McCarthy picked up a grade one hamstring problem against Sunderland and obviously were assessing him. Weve had a bit more time with him than Leighton Baines in that respect - an extra seven days - and well see how he recovers. Darron Gibson, we will assess today. He hasnt been able to train yet because his knee suffered a little bit in [the Republic of Irelands] game against Scotland. Seamus Coleman played with five stitches against Scotland, so we just need to check the wound. Then youve got Steven Pienaar and Kevin Mirallas, theyve been joining the group, and Gareth, Im not too sure if Gareth will make the game, Id be very, very surprised if he did. #shaun
