ABIDE IN HIM Text: John 15:4-7 Memory Verse: “He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me” (John 15:4). This is the very word of Jesus; and it infers for us as Christ’s disciples, our great concern constantly must be to keep up a dependence upon Jesus and communion with Him, habitually to adhere to Him, and actually to derive supplies from Him. Anyone that comes to Christ must abide in Him. We abide in Him by faith, and He in us by His Spirit. We must abide in Christ’s merit as our righteousness and plea; and His presence with us gives us support and comfort. Just as the branch of a tree cannot survive without drawing nutrients from the tree, it is only from Christ that our spiritual life and vitality can come. Child of God, Jesus is saying to you today, “Abide in me …” To abide in the Lord is to remain stable in Him, to continue in Him and to be consistent - which means to have a fixed address in God. It is to remain in Him no matter what. The scripture says, “He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1). Only those who live a life of communion with God are constantly safe under His protection, and may therefore preserve a holy serenity and security of mind at all times. As you abide under the shadow of the Almighty, He shelters you, and comes between you and everything that will want to disturb your peace and comfort, whether storm or sunshine. It is therefore important that you dwell in the secret place of the most High. You cannot walk with God without making up your mind to practically abide in Him. When you abide in Him, you will not have to struggle to live. Food for thought God’s desire is for you to abide in Him. Prayer Lord, help me not to stray from You. Keep me in your will.
