INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON CHAMOIS 26 November 2013, Valsavarenche (Italy) "The Gran Paradiso National Park (GPNP) and the Swiss National Park (SNP) are pleased to invite you to the International workshop on chamois that will be held in Valsavarenche (Gran Paradiso National Park) on November 26, 2013. The meeting is organised within the framework of the Interreg project "GREAT" (Large herbivores in changing Alpine ecosystems) between Italy and Switzerland. The aim of the project is to enhance our knowledge on the ecological mechanisms driving the survival of Alpine ungulates (ibex, chamois, red deer), therefore improving our knowledge on the responsiveness of such species to environmental changes, with special reference to climatic changes, food resources and spatial behaviour. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME The scientific programme will include 5 plenary talks: 1) Behavioural and ecological aspects of coexistence between mountain ungulates (Prof. Sandro Lovari*, Dr. Francesco Ferretti, University of Siena, IT) 2) Eco-physiological aspects of interspecific competition among ruminants (Prof. Juergen Hummel, Georg-August University Goettingen, GER) 3) Veterinary aspects of interspecific competition (Prof. Ezio Ferroglio, University of Turin, IT) 4) Potentials and pitfalls of counting methodologies (Dr. Luca Corlatti, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, AUT - GPNP, IT) 5) Physiological adaptations to extreme climates (Dr. Agnes Haymerle, University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, AUT) The tentative schedule of the meeting will be provided with the second announcement."
