INTERSTELLER is that Christopher Nolan film that talks of a future - TopicsExpress

INTERSTELLER is that Christopher Nolan film that talks of a future which, sadly, seems a bit far-fetched. Not forgetting that it is a SCI-FI and I stress on the FI part, the film is both a visual treat as well as a grandiloquent celebration of Nolans awe-inspiring story telling. When mankind is in serious threat of extinction in a dystopian future they look for ways (read planets) to save humanity. NASA scientists believe that extra-dimensional beings (referred to as they) have created a wormhole near Saturn for the benefit of humankind. What follows is Nolans mash up of wormholes, time warps, quantum mechanics, inverted time shift, black holes, ghosts who are unknown form of intelligence sending Murphy coded messages by means of gravitational waves, multi-purpose utility artificially intelligent robots, tesseract, and what not. Stuck in an extra-dimensional space where time is not linear, Cooper realises it is he who was his daughters childhood ghost and it is he who created the wormhole for the benefit of humanity. There is a lot more to the film than just this but its best if its not said here. Now, while all this sounds very promising and very scientific, in reality and in the present scenario it cant be termed as anything but a far-fetched idea. However, Nolan has taken a pulp genre film and given it a scope and seriousness that sets it apart from the competition. This is where INTERSTELLER stands out. Amid all the science and the Nolanesque complications is a sweet story of a fathers love for his children and a womans belief in her love.
