[INTERVIEW] B.A.P for PATi PATi Magazine Vol. 10 Q: With your Japan debut around the corner, how’re you feeling? Yongguk: Actually, before our debut we came to Japan in May to have our first Japanese concert, and at that time many fans showed us a lot of love. That’s why we are thinking to ourselves that we are excited for our promotions in Japan. Please wait a little while longer. Daehyun: It was the same for the last day of our World Tour (Live on Earth Seoul Wanted), but every time we have a concert in Korea there are many Japanese fans coming to see us. So I was thinking that I wanted to go to Japan and do real music promotions, so it was really good when our Japanese debut was announced. It’s really exciting. Youngjae: We are really happy that we are able to debut in Japan. Right after our Japanese debut we have an arena tour, I feel that I want to prepare properly for it. Jongup: Personally, I had an interest in Japan beforehand, so I was really happy. Himchan: I was also interested in coming to Japan, but we didn’t have a chance to visit other than for performances. That’s why I want to go to Japan as soon as possible and really get the “feeling” of Japan. I also want to meet our Japanese fans as soon as possible. Zelo: The last time we were in Japan I wasn’t able to get a feeling of the place, that’s why I’d like to go as soon as possible and feel Japanese culture and the people around me, to get a feeling like “This is what Japan’s like.” Q: What kind of song is your debut single “Warrior?” Yongguk: We debuted in Korea with this song, and this time we will sing it in Japanese. If you wonder why we are using this song, the reason is that I think “Warrior” shows the best of our musical ability and performance. Q: in that case, Why did you also choose “Punch” and “Power”? Himchan: We preformed both of those songs the last time we were in Japan, and more than our other songs, those were the 2 that fans responded to the most, so that’s why we chose them. Youngjae: We have a lot of songs, but out of all of them, those 2 are really “B.A.P-like.” Q: In that case, what are the points of the performance for each song? Youngjae: First, “Warrior” has our masculine dance skills. Himchan: But the dances for our songs are all really strong. Youngjae: This song is also fierce with large movements. Out of the songs, the dance for “Power” has a lot of break(-dancing) Jongup: That’s the main point of that dance. Youngjae: "Punch"…has punch! Yongguk: Punch! (said while punching) Q: ….I see. All of these songs are very high in quality singing and dancing. To achieve that level of quality, are you practicing a lot? Youngjae: Yes. When we debuted with “Warrior” in Korea, it was every day for half the day? Himchan: From 12~2 we were always practicing. Everyday. Q: Wow. Fans of B.A.P use whistles at your concert, right? Yongguk: There are parts of our songs that there are whistles. Fans copy those parts, right? Q: There are no acts in Japan that have concerts like that, it seems like it will generate interest. All Members: OOOH, Yatta! (Oh, YEAH!) Youngjae: That’s great (laughing) Q: Also, B.A.P has a strong message about society in your songs. Yongguk: The message we are putting in our music is about our social environment. Society has many things that are painful. We are showing that through our music and our performance. Q: For “Warrior,” Yongguk took part in the composing, the rap lyrics, and producing. Yongguk: It started because through music I wanted to express a lot of different things. In order to express myself to many people, I studied several different fields. Because of that, I am now able to write lyrics and compose. Q: All of B.A.P’s songs and performances give you the image of very tough and strong men. Are you really like that? Youngjae: Each member is different. Firstly, Jongup always gives off a happy aura. Zelo is cute. Zelo: Really? (characteristic laughter) Youngjae: That’s right. Yongguk is masculine. Yongguk: Really? Youngjae: Yes. Himchan is like a mom (laughs). He’s always busy. Hicmhan: Huh….busy? Youngjae: Not busy, kind. Sorry. (laughing) Daehyun is cool! Daehyun: Fuhahaha (Characteristic laughter) Q: Alright, what about Youngjae? Youngjae: I’m normal. Himchan: Youngjae is in charge of being handsome in B.A.P. Q: …I’m kind of relieved you guys are like this (laughs). Alright, beginning with your Japan debut, what dreams do you have? Zelo: First off for Japanese people to know about B.A.P’s music. Himchan: I want there to be B.A.P music playing no matter where you go Youngjae: We’re going to do an arena tour in Japan, right? Once we’ve finished that, I hope we will become a group that can do “dome” tours. Personally, that’s my dream. (Note: Arenas hold thousands of people, domes hold tens of thousands, if anyone was wondering) Zelo: The last concerts we had in Japan, the audience seemed to listen quietly to our music rather than get pumped up with us, it seemed like they could respond to our music. So I want them to blow their whistles and get fired up with us. Q: On that note, what Japanese do you know? Zelo: ”Nice to meet you,” “I look forward to working with you” (very formal), “I’ll do my best,” “Look cool…” I only remember this much (laughs) Youngjae: ”The word we use the most in Japanese is ‘Conbini’ (Convienience store) (laughing together)” Daehyun: "Come here everyone!" Himchan: ”Let’s go together.” Yongguk: Putting all that together, it says “Everyone, let’s go together to the convenience store” (laughing together) Jongup: I also know “It’s cold.” Himchan: There is a lot of Japanese that we know, but my favourite is “I wanted to see/meet you.” Q: Is there a place in Japan you’d like to visit? Youngjae: Last time we were here we all went to Hara Juku. It was really fun so I’d like to go again. Yongguk: I like Odaiba. I’ve been there before, but the other members haven’t been so I want to go together. Himchan: I want to go to Odaiba! I am also interested in fashion, so I want to explore Hara Juku more. Zelo: I’m also interested in clothing, I want to go to fashion shops. Q: What about Japanese food you want to try? Himchan: Of course thinking of Japanese food, it’s sushi and sashimi! Daehyun: And Gyuudon! (Beef Rice Bowl) Youngjae: I want to eat gyuudon too! Zelo: Also noodles! Q: What Musicians or famous people do would you want to meet? Himchan: ELLEGARDEN. They aren’t promoting right now, but I want to meet them. For famous people, I want to meet “Kimutaku” (Kimura Takuya) Yongguk: Ah, Kimura Takuya. Daehyun: That guy from “Crows ZERO…” Himchan: Ohgure Shun. Youngjae: Cool! Zelo: I want to meet Utada Hikaru and W-inds. The music and sound is really good. I often listened to Utada Hikaru’s songs while dancing or stretching. I like her debut song “Automatic” the most. Q: Lastly, please give a message to your Japanese fans! Youngjae: Fans in Japan, B.A.P will soon make our Japanese debut! We will do our best for our Japanese promotions, so please cheer for us. Also please come to our arena tour. Pati Pati Feeling and Memory: Youngjae: this is a magazine for musicians, right? Wow! Yongguk: We usually only appear in magazines featuring only Korean groups. This is great! Himchan: Before this, I actually knew about Pati Pati magazine!! It was news when TVXQ made it into this magazine, right? I am really happy that we were also able to be in this magazine!! cr; Nicole @ bapyessir via: B.A.P. PH
