INTERVIEW: How Yoo In Na’s image turn after “You Who Came from the Stars” An interview with the You Who Came from the Stars actress Yoo In Na (31) was held in a cafe in Hongdae, Seoul in the 4th of March. Yoo In Na played the role of Yoo Se Mi in the very popular SBS Fantasy, Romantic Comedy drama You Who Came from the Stars. In the drama she plays the role of Cheon Song Yi’s (Jeon Ji Hyun) friend who ended up being her rival in the entertainment career. Her role as a semi-antagonist isn’t that pleasing to the viewers but her acting totally played an important role in the drama. (When we say not pleasing to the viewers, it does not have a bad meaning, of course. It’s all due to her semi-antagonist role.) Yoo In Na – Photo courtesy of YG ENtertainment Yoo Se Mi was Cheon Song Yi’s good friend who turned out to be her mortal rival as envy takes over her when it comes to Cheon Song Yi’s top star celebrity title and to Lee Hui Kyung (Park Hae Hin) who dearly loves Cheon Song Yi as well. Yoo Se Mi pretended to be a true friend and she showed so much care and support to Cheon Song Yi but when things turned unfortunate for Song Yi, Yoo Se Mi immediately grab the opportunity to take over Song Yi’s popularity. Yoo Se Mi has become the apple of the eye of the media as she gets the attention of Cheon Song Yi’s fans after the Han Yoo Ra scandal. She even confessed her anger and jealousy to Song Yi making her really furious. This confrontation had put their friendship on the brink of breakage. Yoo Se Mi’s victory didn’t last for so long though, because our alien hero Do Min Joon (Kim Soo Hyun) solved the mysteries regarding Han Yoo ra’s death. It revealed that Cheon Song Yi wansn’t the reason for Han Yoo Ra’s death. This gained her “top celebrity” status back and she has then again got the love from the people. This instance did not end up very well with Yoo Se Mi. Of course, it wasn’t that easy to admit defeat to a mortal rival but she then learned how to accept things for her and be contented on what she just have. Yoo Se Mi’s entirely different image from Yoo In Na and charm she showed to captivate viewers’ sympathy. Yoo In Na stated, “I really had to put efforts in acting Yoo Se Mi’s character because her character is more on the negative side. But in fact, I do not resemble her character at all in real life”. She also added, “It’s not easy to immerse myself to Yoo Se Mi’s character because her negative outlook is very uncomfortable to play. She’s pretentious and a woman full of envy. So to be able to be fitting to her persona, I had to put a lot of effort and energy to it. Though on the other hand, I think Yoo Se Mi can be compared to a good food. She may not be perfect and she brings in a lot of negativity but she’s like the meal’s special spice that gives flavor to everything else. She gave the drama more spice and it made the story more realistic and natural.” Yoo Se Mi’s goal to make Lee Hui Kyung fall in love for her didn’t go smoothly. “In the drama, there’s this one scene when Hui Kyung ended up being in his darkest situations. Especially that time, Se Mi wanted to take the opportunity to get Hui Kyung’s heart. But then it wasn;t that easy for her since Lee Hui Kyung has loved only Cheon Song yi for the past 15 years. To be honest, if this is one actual situation, I would refer to him as an obsessed person!” (laughs) There’s this one point when Cheon Song Yi also felt jealous of you when Do Min Joon was trying to take your side, right? “Yes, but you know I think it’s just a natural thing. I am pretty sure Yoo Se Mi felt good about it, but it’s a natural feeling when people love. They get envious when one shows concern to another person other than him/her. In the drama, it makes it more intense as Yoo Se Mi has an inferiority complex due to Cheon Song Yi so that makes that scene a little nerve-wracking.”. Great character transitions and a variety of emotions made your role shine The drama You Who Came from the Stars showed a wide variety of genres which makes the actors show a variety of character transitions and different kinds of emotions as well. How did you manage to put effort on that? “Yoo Se Mi went through a lot of emotions in this drama. She became a good friend, a rival, a lover and many more. I’ve thought about how people live when they are in the same situation with Yoo Se Mi. It must be really difficult, right? But working on this drama made me learn how to accept fate as it is.” The results of the drama was a huge success. “I believe that the characters of Yoo Se Mi and Cheon Song Yi and how their friendship went also leaves traces of lessons to the viewers, also for the youth. Both of their characters have negative sides but they both made the drama bright. Playing the role of Yoo Se Mi was hard at first but eventually, I felt like it made my feelings clear as I understand her more and more.” Now that the drama is over, what are your plans? “Now I am focusing on my radio show broadcast Volume Up and also, I felt really grateful as I have a new project which is as the new MC of the popular beauty show Get it Beauty. I have more activities in the future, but they are still just plans.” “Back then, like 6 years ago I was just a rookie actress. All throughout my projects, guesting and opportunities I’ve been getting all these years, I felt like I have grown so much as an actress. But despite that, I still want to improve in more fields. I even want to appear in an entertainment program or variety show if I get the chance to.”
