INTRO: The UKs University of Wolverhampton signed a MOU on Tuesday with the National University of Laos on the joint delivery of practical and sustainable forestry management training. According to the British Ambassador to Laos, Wolverhampton University becomes the first British university to sign a cooperation agreement with Laos hoping to further expand education links between UK and Lao institutions in the future. STORY: The Centre for International Development and Training at Wolverhampton University and the NUOLs Faculty of Forestry signed their mutual consent to a project on forest governance and timber trade legalisation capacity development in Laos. The MOU was signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Assoc Prof Dr Houngphet Chanthavong, and The Centre for International Development and Training Senior Lecturer Ms Sarah Thomas and witnessed by British Ambassador to Laos Philip Malone and Vice President of NUOL Assoc Prof Dr Phetsamone Khounsavath. The Centre for International Development and Training will support the Faculty of Forestry in adapting the training to a Lao context. Faculty of Forestry expects that this cooperation project will strength the capacity of human resources at NUOL, in particular the Faculty of Forestry, which regquires a curriculum subject on forest governance development to fulfill the needs of the country, and the region. The MOU signing ceremony marked an important next step in the decade-long partnership between the two universities for knowledge exchange and capacity building.
