INVITE YOUR FRIENDS Please take a moment to invite your Facebook friends interested in Kentucky’s public pensions to join our page. We have passed 2,250 members, but the universe of state, county and local pension stakeholders – both retirees and active employees – is far greater. We are the only Facebook community that informs you regularly about pension issues. Of course, being informed is not enough. We need to take direct action. During the last session, we coordinated a petition and a letter-writing campaign aimed at stopping so-called pension reform. Once again, we were the only Facebook community to provide direction to try to stop SB 2. We also provided a voice to the public through media appearances and op-ed pieces. Alas, we failed to stop “reform.” But the fight isn’t over. The General Assembly claims to have “fixed” our pension system through a funding bill, HB 440. It is claimed that employers in the KERS non-hazardous fund will begin providing the annual required contribution through revenues raised through HB 440. Well, the numbers don’t add up. Numerous non-General Fund employers appear to be have been left behind in the funding solution. We’ll need to take up the fight again during the next session. We will need to make sure the General Assembly fully funds the ARC during the budget process. You can’t rely on somebody else to represent your interests. If you relied on somebody to speak for you during the last session, well, look how that turned out. You can’t delegate your interests. It’s up to you.
