INterestingly, the secret order revealed by the Guardian June 5 - TopicsExpress

INterestingly, the secret order revealed by the Guardian June 5 was a COURT order (as the Special Rappotuer suggest) "from the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court directing American telecommunications provider Verizon to provide the National Security Agency all telephony metadata recorded by its Business Network Services unit for a 3 month period ending July 19. The order includes the metadata of local calls as well as international calls originating in the United States. Sources told the Washington Post that the order appears to be a routine 90 day extension of an order first issued by the court in 2006." The article notes that: "Authority for the metadata collection exists under the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act as amended by the Patriot Act." So one might like the outcome, but that part of the process appears right according to his lights. wiretapping-too-broad-says-human-rights-report/2013-06-05#ixzz2VT9D7ak9 Subscribe at FierceGovernmentIT
