IRAVAN IS A TURKIC KHANAT (demographic investigation) Mammadova Irada Malik gizi The Summary The sources prove that the population of the ancient Azerbaijani land – Iravan khanate were the Azerbaijani Turks. Data of the travelers who had been in Iravan khanate in the XVII-XVIII centuries, as well as the toponyms existed in the khanate territory in Azerbaijan maintain it. Immediately, after the invasion of Iravan khanate by Russia count Paskevich reported, that three fourth of all khanate population consisted of moslems. But in the course of invasion and after it the Russians forcing Azerbaijani Turks out of territories of Iravan khanate made them to leave their native lands and they transferred the Armenians to these lands. In the I half of the 1827 5000 nomad moslems left Iravan khanate. In the same year moslems who had left Iravan khanate covered 8700 families. Out of these 5100 migrated to Iran and 3000 to Turkey. In exchange for this 10708 Armenian families were transferred from Iran and Turkey to Iravan province. Under the Turkmenchay treaty of the 1828 s in the I half of year out of 8249 Armenian families 4559 moved from Iran were settled in territory of former Iravan khanate. The bulk of these families were settled in the best mahals (districts – M. I.) of Iravan khanate (in 119 villages), over 300 artisan Armenian families were quartered in local city – dwellers houses in Iravan. Transferred from the khanates of Salmas and Khoy about 200 Armenian families were sent to Surmali mahal. After the Adirna treaty of the 1829s 21666 Armenians, 324 yezdi (yesuit), kurds were transferred from Turkey. Most of these moved there Armenians were quartered in mahals of Qirkhbulaq, Surmali, Talin, Korpubasar, Abaran, Darachichek and Qoyja. After Russian invasion the Azerbaiyani population of Pambak and Shurayel were substituted by the Armenians moved there. With this Armenians forcibly were settled by the Russians in the territory of Iravan khanate.
