IRDA SEES CHALLENGING TIMES AHEAD The Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) sees attracting new investments into the country’s first economic growth corridor becoming more challenging in the coming years. Chief executive officer Datuk Ismail Ibrahim said the ever-changing global investment climate and competition from countries in the region were the two main factors that contributed to the challenge. “It is important to ensure that Iskandar Malaysia remains attractive as an investment destination regardless of what the global economic situation is or the challenge that we are facing,’’ he said. He said this to reporters after the opening of BioMalaysia and BioEconomy Asia Pacific 2013, by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin yesterday. According to Ismail, from 2006 until Sept 30, 2013, Iskandar Malaysia received RM128.21bil in cumulative committed investments from the RM119bil recorded as at end of June, this year. He said of the RM128.21bil, RM55.81bil, or 44%, had been realised, of which RM83.40bil, or 65%, came from domestic investors while RM44.81bil, or 35%, were contributed by foreign investors. thestar.my/Business/Business-News/2013/10/22/Irda-sees-challenging-times-ahead.aspx
