IS THE COST OF OUR ENJOYMENT, THE ANGER OF ALLAH? If we find ourselves constantly laughing & joking with the opposite gender...or even always engaging in idle chitchat, then we should know that this is Haram & indeed displeasing to Allāh, no matter how much enjoyment we get out of it or how we try to justify it. We can try to convince others & even ourselves that we are weak or at least I dont have a boyfriend or girlfriend so its not that bad but the reality is, if we wanted to do something about it (this weakness that we claim) out of fear of The One who is Al-Shadīd Al-Iqāb (the Most Severe in Punishment) then we would actually take steps to prevent ourselves from earning the anger of Allāh. No doubt we all go through moments of weakness but the strong person is the one who learns & does not let that weakness coupled with his/her desires dictate his/her actions. If our Imān is really that weak that we cant help always joking around & socialising with random brothers & sisters, then the best & only option should be to remove those of the opposite gender & go and work on ways to strengthen our Imān by studying the Dīn more etc. It is not surprising that the Prophet ﷺ said, ما تركت بعدي فتنة أضر على الرجال من النساء I have not left behind after me a Fitnah (trial) more harmful upon the men, than women. We cant just sit in a car without to put the key in the ignition in order to be able to drive & then complain about why we are not arriving at our desired destination.
