ISAC – HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE – 2014 ROUND 3 – MATCH REPORT This match was the rearranged fixture from February, cancelled due to the winter storms. 77 anglers booked in for the open competition which was fished in Stokes Bay, Gosport from 7pm until midnight on Saturday 12th April 2014. 88 pegs were laid out in 4 zones with peg 1 placed on Gilkicker through to peg 66 at Alver Wall, the final zone of 22 pegs being placed at the entrance to Browndown beach, up just past the Concrete Mushroom peg 88. Weather conditions were perfect for the venue with just a slight SW breeze blowing throughout the evening. High Tide was set at 2301 at 4.3m. 71 entrants recorded 604 fish at the scales for a total match weight of 114lb 10ozs, 51.985kg. That total was represented by 15 different species of fish; 2 x Bass, 2 x Dab, 39 x Dogfish, 2 x Codling, 39 x Dogfish, 4 x Flounder, 2 x Gurnard, 2 x Plaice, 222 x Pouting, 3 x Spotted Ray, 5 x Thornback Ray, 1 x Rockling, 3 x Silver Eel, 20 x Smoothhound and 297 Whiting. The most noteworthy fish of the night was a new ISAC League Record Spotted Ray of 5lb 2ozs, 2.324kg, a 113.8% specimen for the area, landed by PETER FARRELL of Portsmouth from peg 82. A total of £1,015 was paid out in 18 cash awards on the night, raising the total cash payout this year to £3,220. INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION World No 1 JOE ARCH from Cardiff won his 10th ISAC League competition with victory from peg 84 in zone D placed 50m past the concrete mushroom on Browndown with the top match weight of 13lb 11½ozs, 6.222kg, winning £155 with the ISAC Round 3 Match Winners trophy and certificate. Joe landed the HFOTM a Thornback Ray of 10lb 10ozs, 4.819kg with a Dogfish, 11 Pouting and 16 Top-Ups. Joe is the most successful individual ISAC league match winner ahead of ROB MARSHALL with 8 victories and ANT BUIK with 7. Runner-up in the match was NICK MAY from Hastings who won zone A from peg 18 with a total weight of 6lb, 2.721kg represented by 1 Dogfish, 3 Pouting, 8 Top-Ups and a Spotted Ray of 4lb 4½ozs, 1.941kg, landed on peeler crab in daylight. The final podium place went to the rod of defending Individual Champion MIKE BROWN from Southampton who from peg 39 in zone B landed 10 Pouting, 1 Dogfish, 1 Whiting and 10 Top-Ups, for a total zone winning weight of 4lb 3ozs, 1.899kg. The final zone victory went to DANNY WOODCOCK from Portland who recorded a zone C victory from peg 47 with a total weight of 2lb 15ozs, 1.332kg, represented by 2 Dogfish, 4 Pouting and 2 Top-Ups. All the zone winners won cash prizes of £100. SEA ANGLER MAGAZINE – PENN SEA LEAGUE The top PENN points on weight will be awarded to JOE ARCH, PETER FARRELL and NICK MAY. MIKE BROWN and DANNY WOODCOCK will pick up bonus points for their zone victories as should JOE for landing the HFOTM. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP There was another change at the top of the Individual Championship table with defending Champion MIKE BROWN returning to the top after recording a second consecutive zone victory. Mike opens up a 6 point lead after r3, with a total weight of 8lb 8dms, 3.642kg, on 6 points. RAY POPE from Bishops Waltham moved up into 2nd place overall from 3rd, on 12 points and 3lb 6¾ozs, 1.552kg in weight. The final podium place is now held by PETER FARRELL on 13 points and 7lb 1¾ozs, 3.224kg in weight. The Individual Championship is a best 10 round point’s score from 12 events.
