ISFA Boodles Cup 3rd Round Report: Alleyn’s 2 – The Grange 0 Alleyn’s sealed a place in the quarter finals after putting their demons to rest with a resolute 2-0 win vs. The Grange. After the game, I was able to get a word from the talkative Louis Mugerwa who described the clean sheet by saying ‘we defended with valour akin to that of the Spartans at Thermopylae’. Alleyn’s started strongly, hoping to get their own back on the side that edged them out of the U13 ISFA Cup Final in 2008/9. Both sides were willing to get stuck in, with Nick Jeyerajah no exception with some hard challenges in the middle of the park, showing the aspiring Lower School students how its done. The Grange showed their ability on the counter attack with their forwards exchanging well to create a chance only for Jamie Savage to deal with. However, it was Alleyn’s who deservedly grabbed the first goal of the game. Fantastic skill and cross from Harry Chaldecott found Kish Du Sauzay at the back post, squaring the ball to Liam Fox for an easy tap in. After the goal, the boys gained more confidence and began to pass the ball about confidently. Harry Chaldecott almost made it 2-0 after a great lofted pass by Joe Kelly left him one on one, only for his lobbed attempt to be well stopped by the Grange keeper. The Grange continued to have chances with their front pair both having opportunities to level the score, but a top save from Jamie Savage enabled Alleyn’s to go into the half with their clean sheet intact. The game continued to be played with high levels of commitment and aggression on both sides, but it was Alleyn’s who edged the first stages of the second half and were rewarded with a second goal to ease the pressure. Great work from Fabian Secon-Smith down the right hand side, played in Liam Fox who cleverly found Joe Kelly to smash the ball home from just inside the box. Grange reacted positively and began to play a more direct game trying to get the ball to the forwards as much as possible. The Alleyn’s back four stood strong, working hard to win the ball. Despite the pressure, the boys were able maintain some good possession and move the ball about quickly. They were able to see out the game, with the defenders doing well to hold onto their much-deserved clean sheet. Joshua Robins Football Secretary
