ISPR issued a statement this evening following an emergency meeting of the corps commanders, chaired by the COAS. Following points are noteworthy: - Expressed serious concern over the ongoing situation; - Called for inter-party talks to promote solutions; - Military respects democracy; - Avoid the use of force; - The armed forces respect aspirations of the people, and shall not disappoint them in the hour of need. Fairly, balanced statement. Warning to NS, the Allama, and Kaptaan to help promote a negotiated settlement. Imminent danger of military take over has been averted for the time-being. Both revolutionaries may have been disappointed with the statement. How should the law-enforcing personnel act if the demonstrators carry clubs, tools, e.g, iron-cutters, and marble-fired ghulails? How should they be tackled if the fans of IK, and the Allama set the road furniture, and trees ablaze? Should they be garlanded, and served chocolates?
