ITEM NO.1 PAGE NO. JAGAN BEGINS INDEFINITE FAST IN JAIL; TDP MPS TOO BEFORE LOK SABHA FROM TODAY Hyderabad, Aug.25 (PMI): Indefinite fasts and relay hunger strikes seem to be the “Samaikya Weapon” being used by the leaders of various political parties to not only remain in the limelight during the present agitation for the cause of a united State but also to save their skin from the wrath of the people for resigning from their present posts. With the announcement of the Congress Working Committee on July 30 for bifurcating the State, there was a spontaneous reaction among the students and various sections of the people, who took to the streets in the Seemandhra region. The region has been smouldering ever since with rallies, bandhs and bus bandhs besides closure of all educational institutions. As pressure started building up on Ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs belonging to the region to resign and join the peoples movement, these elected representatives to appease the agitators began to participate in various forms of agitations, including relay hunger strikes and even indefinite fasts in almost all 13 districts of the Seemandhra region. The police on their part cracked the whip in a bid to prevent the situation going out of control because of the fasting leaders, started arresting and shifting them to hospitals. On one side the police were arresting the fasting leaders and at the same time other leaders sat on indefinite fasts. Thus the indefinite fasts and relay hunger strikes have become the order of the day in the Seemandhra region. Not to lag behind in this race of fasts, YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy launched his indefinite fast from 6 am on Sunday in Chanchalguda Central Jail in the State capital to what he claimed as a protest against the manner in which the Congress had decided to bifurcate the State. It is an open secret that Jagan and his party are against bifurcation of the State and are extending full support to the ongoing agitation in the Seemandhra region. According to the Jail Superintendent Saidaiah, no permission was taken by Jagan for launching his indefinite fast within the jail premises. He said action would be taken as per rules for any violation in this regard. However at the same time, heavy security arrangements were made before the jail by deploying more number of police forces. Soon after news spread about Jagan commencing his indefinite fast, his supports and party cadre began assembling before the jail and raised slogans in his support. In the Seemandhra region, leaders of the YSRCP also either launched relay fasts or indefinite fasts to express their solidarity with Jagan. As if not to lag behind the YSRCP, the Telugu Desam, which is engaged in a power struggle with Jagan’s party in the Seemandhra region, too decided to use the new “Samaikya Weapon” -- indefinite fast. The Telugu Desam MPs, including the four MPs suspended from Lok Sabha, woud launch their indefinite fast before Parliament House from Monday. The MPs vowed to continue their struggle to prevent bifurcation of the State. The party MPs C.M. Ramesh and Narayana alleged that it was Sonia Gandhi’s game plan to divide the State with eye on 2014 elections to forge an alliance with the TRS in Telangana and YSRCP in Seemandhra. Meanwhile, the agitation in the entire Seemandhra region continued unabatedly with the integrationists adopting novel methods to express their anger and anguish over the bifurcation of the State. The JAC of Electricity Employees in Nellore threatened that the power supply to ministers and other elected representatives of the people would be cut off if they do not resign and join the movement before the month end. They also said that the power supply from Nellore to the southern parts of the country would also be stopped from September 2. (PMI) ITEM NO.2 PAGE NO. T MAHILA JAC SLAMS VIJAYAMMA, JAGAN FOR GOING ON FASTS Hyderabad, Aug.25 (PMI): Stating that women were playing a pivotal role in the ongoing separate Telangana agitation, the Telangana Mahila JAC has lashed out at the Telugu Desam and YSR Congress parties for adopting dual standards on the Telangana issue. Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, Telangana Mahila JAC leaders Ratnamala, K. Vimala, Mary Madiga, Gogu Shyamala and Telangana Rashtriya Lok Dal official spokesperson Sogara Begum said YSRCP honorary president Y S Vijayamma’s hunger strike against bifurcation of the State was shameless as that party took no objection to bifurcation of the State earlier and changing tune all of a sudden to woo the electorate in the Seemandhra region. They also took serious exception to Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s announcement that he would go on indefinite hunger strike in the Chanchalguda Jail. The T Women JAC leaders also criticized the TDP leaders for participating in the Samaikyandhra agitation even as they had declared that the TDP was not against formation of Telangana State. They demanded that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu discipline his party leaders and stand by his word. Asserting that Hyderabad was Telangana people’s fathers’ property, they warned those who were advocating Union Territory status to Hyderabad to change their opinion. They also slammed the APNGOs leaders for participating in the “meaningless” Samaikyandhra agitation even after looting the job opportunities of the Telangana people. The Telangana Women JAC leaders also expressed gratitude to the Union government on behalf of the families of Telangana martyrs for announcing that the process of formation of Telangana State has begun in deference to the wishes of the people of the region. They also urged the Centre to introduce Telangana Bill in Parliament and get it endorsed by it. They also appealed to the Seemandhra people to give up Samaikyandhra agitation and contribute for development of both the States and realize the fact that bifurcation of the State was only answer. (PMI) ITEM NO.3 PAGE NO. GUTHA DEMANDS JAGAN’S SHIFT TO A SEEMANDHRA JAIL Nalgonda, Aug.25 (PMI): Charging YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy with provoking the people of the Telangana region by observing hunger strike in the Chanchalguda Jail, Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukhendar Reddy has demanded that the government immediately shift the jailed leader either to Kadapa, Visakhapatnam or Rajahmundry jails. Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, Sukhendar Reddy demanded that Jaganmohan Reddy clarify whether he was observing fast for equal justice or for Samaikyandhra. Opining that Samaikyandhra agitation was like a dead body, he said “treatment” to a dead body is useless. He also alleged that the YSRCP president has changed his tune to Samaikyandhra after realizing the fact his party would be extinct in the Telangana region. Advising PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana to shun “step-motherly” attitude towards the Telangana Congress leaders, he appealed to the Seemandhra leaders to whole-heartedly cooperate in the bifurcation of the State.
