ITS A MATTER OF BUSINESS During my business workshops, I will - TopicsExpress

ITS A MATTER OF BUSINESS During my business workshops, I will often encounter business owners whose businesses are not doing well and usually I ask two questions which I think are very important. One is, why did you go into business? and usually the answer is generic and mundane. Two common responses which I get is to make money and I do not want a boss. Lets look at the first response - to make money. This is way too generic and lacks a focal point. Instead I should have heard something specific, like I want a million dollars in my bank account in 5 years, or I want to have enough money in the bank to build my house, debt free. To be specific about your reason for going into business gives you something to aim at hence a direct reason to labour and toil on making the business work. In life, you have to take aim at something specific, you cannot free float or you will end up any where, the same is true in business, you have to know exactly where you are going. So if at this point of your business life or if you are just starting up and you do not know specifically why you are in business, then its time to take out a pen and paper and map your path to some specific point and go there. It makes for a successful business... trust me!
