ITS BANANA HEAD QUIZ TIME AT THE OLD BARN THE FIRST PIZZA IN WASHINGTON COUNTY? Now, at first glance, you may not think this worthy of mention here at The Brenham Banana-Press ... but ... me thinks you might be in error with that kind of thinking, Banana Head ... Just give it some thought ... How far back can you suppose that it was when Washington County did NOT have the pizza pie available for human consumption? ... 30 years ago? ...40 years ago? ... 50 years ago? ... 60 years ago? ... When did the community finally get their hunger for pizza satiated? ... Our Head Keg Tapper (retired) Bob Mueller likes to make a to-do about pizza. His favorite combination is extra-thick crust with loads of sauce and globs of cheese topped with a bunch of mutant anchovies ... fresh night crawlers ... fried crunchy katydids ... monkey tail bits ... and, some of that disgusting --- PEPPERONI ... And, it must all be an EXTRA-LARGE with garlic/jalapeno bread sticks on the side served with essence of alligator dipping sauce. Plus, of course, a keg of German Soda ... But ... we wonder if he (or any Nanner Head) has ever given much thought, speculation, or even taken a wild guess as to where was the FIRST PIZZA of Washington County? ... Im thinking I have a pretty good idea. May be way off base ... but Id be fairly close in my reckoning, Im sure of that ... The photos I have chosen do represent where and what as to the pizzas of the early days were. I wont say what my guess is, but if you are of my generation you probably already have a good idea of what Im thinking. Anyone care to take a whack at this curious question? ... Call it our first PIZZA QUIZ! ... Okay, Banana Heads ... lets see how your pondering craniums work ... Let the speculations begin! .... :)
