ITS TIME TO DEBATE! This past week I invited my GOP rival to debate the issues to provide voters with the opportunity to compare our positions on the issues. Thus far, Aaron has yet to respond. In case my letter to his campaign was overlooked, below is a copy. July 1, 2014 Dear Aaron, Please consider this letter a gentleman’s invitation to participate in a series of debates in order to share our views on the key issues with the people of southern Minnesota. Hopefully you agree that vigorous debate between the 1st District Republican congressional candidates will help voters discern the differences between us, our campaigns and our ability to defeat Tim Walz and serve as an effective Member of Congress. As a four-term Congressman, Tim Walz has extensive debate experience, as well as intimate working knowledge of the national issues. Therefore, it is important for both of us to articulate clear positions on the issues not only for Republican primary voters, but for those who will vote in the general election and to the media. I hope you share my belief that the exposure these debates provide will surely help the eventual Primary Election winner in the quest to defeat Walz. I am completely open to suggestions regarding all debate details, including the venues, format(s), moderators, etc. However, the idea of holding a debate of 75-90 minutes in each of the 1st District’s main regions (Rochester area, Mankato area and Worthington area) makes basic sense. Perhaps the events could be scheduled one week apart, starting July 15th. In my view, it is imperative that southern Minnesotans have the chance to understand our basic issue positions, depth of knowledge and proposed solutions before casting their votes for the August 12th Primary Election. A series of robust debates will serve to benefit both candidates as we prepare for the General Election.
