Ibn Khaldun - The Rise and Fall of Nations By Shaykh Dr Mohammad - TopicsExpress

Ibn Khaldun - The Rise and Fall of Nations By Shaykh Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi Muqaddimah of Ibn Khaldun is one of the most important works on the study of the rise and fall of nations. Although it is written in the 9th Century (AH) the ideas and concepts expressed in that work are as modern as any serious work of its kind today. Ibn Khaldun employed a multi-disciplinary approach to analyse history and predict the rise and fall of nations. This no doubt is relevant for us today more than ever before. This work records an early view of universal history. Some modern scholars regard it as the first work on the philosophy of history and a pioneer in such disciplines as sociology, demography, historiography, cultural history, and economics. It also deals with Islamic theology, law, political theory and the natural sciences of biology and chemistry. Ibn Khaldun wrote the work in 1377 as the Preface or first book of his planned world history, but already in his lifetime it became regarded as an independent work. The course will provide a critical introduction of the work. - Shaykh Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi The seminar coming up on Sunday (as part of the Classical Islamic Texts Diploma) is the first ever seminar of its kind looking at the works and ideas of Ibn Khaldun.
