Ibn Masud (RA) once had some money tucked away in his turban and went to the marketplace. When he was about to buy something, he noticed that it was stolen. As was common at the time, people gathered around him to see if they could help. Many of them began to curse the thief and supplicate against him, O Allah do such-and-such to him. How did ibn Masud react? He said, O Allah, if what caused him to steal was a dire need, then bless the money for him; and if what caused him to do so was fearlessness upon sinning, then make it the last of his sins.
