Id like to posit the notion that the world might have become a better place if the Mongols had gone further West. Firstly, they never tried to convert anyone to their religion, as it is tied closely to the Mongolian landscape and they thought no foreigners would ever understand it. Secondly, they viewed women as equals. Plus, they promoted people based on merit as opposed to family name, which, to me, is major. Also, they were ridiculously efficient in their charge when you consider that they conquered more land than anyone in known history in a space of about 25 years. Also, they opened up trade in places that had previously kept only to themselves and invented a sort of pony express mail system, which is radical for those days. They were bad dudes, in that they were vicious conquerors, but more advanced than most of Europe at the time, in my opinion. Just sayin...
