Id like to see an episode of Blue Bloods where the following happens. Frank, the Police Commissioner, who is nearing the end of his administration, is put at odds with the Mayor, Chief of Staff, Garrett, the newly promoted Police Liaison and sadly, his eldest living son, Danny, a NYPD Detective. He wants to erase the Blue Line from the NYPD. The common sentiment by his opposers is that, We protect our own. Franks response to that sentiment is, Not on my watch. We Protect and Serve the Public FIRST. The only people standing with Frank is his daughter, father, former Police Commissioner and his youngest son, Jamie, a Beat Cop. Over the course of his administration, the city has paid out nearly two hundred million in wrongful death suits, all ultimately funded by Taxpayers. That is NOT a solution. Furthermore, many of the officers that were culpable were never prosecuted, some had prior bad acts and the Blue is what kept them on the Force. He is quoted as saying, If 5 cops respond to an incident, 1 commits a damnable deed and the other 4 do nothing to stop it or report it, there were no good cops present. His strategy is as follows - Damages for lawsuits resulting from criminal or wrongful acts by officers shall be paid out of the Policemens Retirement Fund. All Officers will then have a vested interest in purging bad Cops from the force. Frank says, We shall start by a Policing our own and it happens now. Any Officer found to have not reported a bad act shall be terminated immediately with a do not hire recommendation. Cops charged with bad or criminal acts shall be suspended without pay until matter is adjudicated. No-Knock warrants shall be abandoned. Franks says, Hopefully the State Legislature will follow my lead and outlaw them altogether. The Militarization of the NYPD shall be terminated and Military Hardware returned or destroyed. Police Officers shall no longer were masks in special operations. Finally, in an effort to improve public perception of the NYPD, New Training, emphasizing Protect and Serve SOP shall be reinstated. Regarding patrol teams, whenever possible, we shall endeavor to select an Officer that is intimately familiar with that community, hopefully, one that either grew up there or currently resides there. Franks closes a speech delivered to the Public with this, Remember, good or bad flows downhill, often never up. Id like to hear from Police Officers. #BLUELINE
