If Carlie were alive, we would have been married 57 years today. How wonderful that it is Sunday, as my church always lifts me up and up and up. How can this young pastor, who preaches like Carl did, with no notes, no outline, bring an old old story about Mary and Martha alive so well? He takes us there, we see Jesus, we see them all, and we hear Jesus in our venacular, gently chiding Martha. The Taize service was amazing, our music director at the piano, three men, one on drums, one on guitar, and one with bass cello. A seminary student sang during offering. We sang in Zulu, we sang in Spanish, we sang in Latin. And I am finally comfortable at coffee time, finding lots of interesting people to talk to. Today I talked for the first time to a young man who had taught in Zimbabwe and in Namibia. So thank you Carl, for being responsible for my multi-cultural experiences, so I can appreciate all these multi-cultural people I have found here.
