If a sea otter swims up and grabs your rudder or attempts to climb - TopicsExpress

If a sea otter swims up and grabs your rudder or attempts to climb aboard your kayak, first of all stay calm. If the otter doesn’t swim away after a few seconds, gently rock your boat from side to side to discourage it and then paddle away from the animal. If necessary give it a gentle nudge with your paddle. Do not try to reach out and touch it or encourage it to climb aboard. Otters that exhibit this behavior repeatedly should be reported to Monterey Bay Aquariums Sea Otter Research & Conservation (SORAC) team so they can take appropriate action. The number to call is (831) 648-4840.
